[Misc] Panasonic DP 4530 paper size recongition problems

I got a screwball one here. When you place a Ledger size document on the scanner glass it will recognize it but even though the unit has the paper size in the tray, and it knows there is paper in the tray, will will still ask you to load Ledger size paper into the tray. Has anyone ever seen this before?

These machines do not have auto size sensing. If they do not have the size cards on the right, front of the paper tray, you have to program the 3 and 4 tray in F5 service mode. It will say "none" if they are not programed.

I have programmed the tray through the F5 menu to Ledger size. When we send a print job to the unit calling for Ledger paper it prints it no problem. When we place Ledger size paper on the flatbed, that is where the problem starts. The unit sees the tray, it shows there is paper in the tray, rollers are good and sensors test well ... is it possible the logic board could be having a brainfart?

Also, the display shows Ledger as the original and Ledger as the copy size

Sounds like the optical size sensors under the glass are dirty or bad. If it will scan through the document feeder to the correct size, the sensors under the glass are bad. And with these things, anything is possible...

Can these trays be set for special paper? Meaning, the machine won't choose the tray unless specifically choosen by the user from the control panel or print driver.
          Hope this helps.

Yes they can be set for special paper, in the general settings mode, keyop settings 0000, etc.

I wonder if you have the machine set for multisize detect mode. I believe the setting is in F5 mode, but you can turn it off temporarily from the 2 sided mode screen. If the machine is in multisize detect, it will only allow you to use the ADF, if you put paper on the glass it will tell you to put originals in the ADF.
