Hi Guys,
I had an interesting call at one of my schools yesterday. They have an 8060 with about 1.3 million clicks.
They were reporting J43's and F8-06 showed that it would come and go every couple of days.
I went ahead and did my normal service, ran it, and waited for the jam.
The jams that I observed were after the second side was made and the print was heading for delivery to the finisher.
As I was checking everything out I came to the Exit Guide 7/Diverter. This piece is controlled by a solenoid mounted behind the rear frame. They connect to each other through that small white oblong coupling at the rear of the machine.
As I was moving it back and forth I felt a subtle binding at the top of the coupling. The binding I felt was so subtle that normally I would not pay it too much attention
Long story short, I applied just a couple of drops of oil, I use Castrol 5W-50W, and worked it back and forth and the binding disappeared.
Staff came in and ran their jobs. No jamming.
And then "Dragon Lady" came in to check on my progress. I showed her what I found and what I did. She started running it and after 10 copies stated, "Wow. It even sounds better". And she was right.
Just this little fix made a HUGE difference.
For myself, this is going to be one that I will be installing on all of my machines.
Give it a shot and let me know what you think.
Doug
