The droid OS is the heart of the Smart Operation Panel. What type of non Ricoh APs are you interested in installing? And you cannot use it as a Smart Phone, no cell transmitter. Ricoh does have a number of APs for the SOP to include a browser. With the browser you might be able to download and install other APs, but I would either check with Ricoh as to compatibility or get a written guarantee from the AP provider that it will do no damage to the SOP or MFP.

I would be extremely surprised if Ricoh would support any Android software that does not have their proverbial blessing.

It may be an Android, but it's still not your basic smart phone or tablet.

I think that you are referring to Ricoh Smart Device Connector. This might be what you are looking for: Smart Device Connector Installation and Support Guide. It is available in the US from rfg-esource.ricoh-usa.com, rfg065496. You might want to check Ricoh for your region for how to obtain a copy. One word of caution, if you are planning on setting it up on your office network to test prior to delivering to the customer, you are going to have trouble at the customer unless they are using the same IP subnet. If not, you will need to find out how to remove and reinstall all network setting for the SOP/RSDC.

Here are some video nuggets that might help:
              Smart Operation Panel Installation

              Smart Panel OS Update

              Smart Panel Application Update

And a link the Ricoh Click2Learn Ricoh Click2Learn. It has a number of downloadable exercises for Smart Device Connector and Integrated Cloud Environment.

Once again Thanks slimslob - I am really struggling to find information on how you actually go about setting up the Ricoh Smart Device Connect app. I mean I have it installed on my iPhone and I have the device connected to the same WiFi but cannot get the two devices to communicate what so ever.

I'd have hoped that Ricoh would have released instructions on how to do all of this but it appears to be a secret.

If I remember correctly, with an android you have to scan to setup your phone the first time only. With an iPhone, you have to scan each time you want to use it.

actually with the droid you scan for the initial setup, but then for use you can connect via the NFC tag or scan the QR code............

Scanning the QR code was what I was referring to. I had to scan it the first time I connected, after that I just had to use the NFC tag. I think the documentation said that iPhone needed to scan the QR code each time to connect.
