    Ricoh MP-C4500 Black copies

Customer told me that when they lift up the adf to place checks to be copied from time to time it would come out black. They have never had this happen when using the adf or print to it. only when they copy from the glass. So I thought that it was the exposure lamp or harness. so I replaced it with a new one. Been about 2 weeks since the replacement and just heard from them on Friday that the same thing is happening again.

Does anybody have any ideas on what could cause this problem? Thanx

It is an anti-counterfiting measure. You can't turn it off.You need them to reduce or enlarge the copy when reproducing checks to avoid that issue.

You will get the same thing when you try to copy currency, stock certificates and other securities. When I have customers who want to copy checks and currency before making a deposit in order to have a record of what was deposited, I tell them to reduce 10% to 15%. It also allows them to put more items on a single page.

If you lift up the ADF, this sticker should be at the front. Kinda self explanatory.

And it doesn't always just happen on prohibited items, too. If the color mix on something they are trying to copy is too close to any of the items on the prohibited list, the machine will process it as such. I had that problem with a place that was copying topographical maps once.
slimslob's right though, changing the magnification should solve the problem.

Sometimes the position where they place the cheque on the glass can help, not exactly sure why.

This issue is coming up more and more due to the fact that the latest checks have special watermarks on them now. The machines have ALL had some measure of counterfeit control since the 90's. Especially the color MFD's.
