    MPC3500 Format Print Controller HDD?

Anyone know how to format the HDD on the print controller for the MPC3500? Doing some strange things and years ago we formatted for a similiar reason and it took care of it, just can't remember how. Manual is no help!

    Thanks

There are 2, and they must be a matched set, so likely you'll have to replace both of them, because good luck finding an exact match to the original 80Gb WD drive (or whatever they were), unless you have a parts machine.
You can use much larger ones (I've used up to 500Gb), but they must be identical size, speed, manufacturer, etc.

odd thing. We wanted to format to fix a blurring problem ONLY when using PS option. PCL prints clean, but PS looks fuzzy when client prints.

        Any thoughts?

        Format did not fix it.

        Thanks

Clear function memory. Update/reload PS firmware. Update/reinstall PS driver.

Sounds like a driver setting issue.

Do internal test pages print OK? If not, you may have the wrong PostScript option installed.

That very thing happened here on CTN a few weeks ago where someone installed the wrong SD card, although I think they actually had "choppy" looking prints, not "fuzzy".

You would think there would be no output, an SC code, an on screen error, etc..., but such was not the case.

If the internal pages are OK, (NOT Windoze test pages), and print jobs look bad, it's a setting, print file, or driver issue. Never rule out user error in cases like this, either...i.e., are they blowing up a low resolution image?

PCL actually takes a picture of your screen. PostScript, on the other hand, does not, so it is more critical on the content of the file being printed.

Do a PostScript test page from the MFP/Printers System Settings.

If the internal PS font test page is sharp and not fuzzy, the problem more than likely is with the job being sent to the printer. Most possibly the font is being rasterized at a low resolution and not being an actual TrueType or PostScript font. Especially if it some kind of stylized or custom font and not a standard font.

                Good Luck!
