MP 2352 coding out with an SC899 only after sending print jobs...

These machines came back from a govt account, they kept the hard drives, we had to add new once we got the machines back. They did change some admin settings for security, but we think we've got the proper settings reinstalled. The machine seems to work fine until they receive a print job. Once a test page is printed out approximately 1 minute and 10 seconds later the machine codes out with an SC 899. If I send a print using a 520 RPCS Driver the machine codes out about 10 minutes later, instead of the 1 minute, but it still codes out.

We have updated firmware, downgraded firmware, replaced the controller, and the nvram, tried rewriting the birth cert., even logged in with telnet to change the printer timeout setting back to 300 seconds from the 15 seconds that firmware affects (based on a tip from another thread).

Seems we have tried everything, and still no luck, If anyone can add a solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Marc

Did you go into service mode and format the new hard drive?

SC 899 normally indicates the firmware need to be updated. Do you have a list of what the current firmware is?

        Slimslob is right.

SC899 is generally firmware. Although it can also be related to software error issues like bad drivers and dodgy HDD's. Do a HDD format in the machine first, update to latest firmware (again) and use the latest PCL 6 driver (Do not use that crappy RPCS driver, there's a reason Ricoh gave it up...)

Failing that, change the HDD to a different one. Could be on its way out.

899 is an issue with either the machine getting a "corrupt" print job (usually a PDF printed via a plugin using a web browser). or an issue with the print memory. There is "custom" system and PCL firmware on the ricoh site that may help.

Custom firmware PCL_LR0005_V1.03.1 dated 5/27/14 was a temporary fix. It was replaced by PCL V1.04 dated 10/29/14 as a production fix.

First, Thanks to all for the replies,

I took the advice of MCC-Support, and reformatted the HD in service mode, then rewrote all the firmware, and finally used the most current PCL6 2352 print driver from the tsrc site.

So far have gone twenty minutes without codes. Previously we haven't made it past 10 minutes.

Thanks again to all for your support.

In my experience it is mostly a print issue a print job etc.. but not always!
I've had fax / SMB / and others issues that produce SC 899.
Its always worth checking the file name in the detail section of the SC code, when checking these details if PCL is listed you can safely assume that the fault is indeed associated to a print job, therefore as slimslob and others have mentioned, drivers and firmware is the way to go.
I had a particular customer site that had several engineer visits presuming it was print job issues, it turned out to be a SMB related issue, this was only found due to the details section of the SC, filename.
