    MP5500 adding random blank sheets

Hi guys, I've got a really weird fault on a near brand new MP5500.When copying large documents(20+) the machine will randomly add blank sheets to the outputted document.

I've tried using different paper trays incase it was a multifeed issue. The only other thing I can think of is firmware BUT because our wonderful firmware download website was down I couldn't do that.

Anyone any ideas as to what it could be?

    back to basics

I believe you were close to the answer in your description. The most likely cause is double fed paper. You changed cassettes but used the same paper. I strongly recommend you try a xerographic paper. This is a category of paper not a brand of paper. Xerographic paper is formulated to reduce double feeds and guess what - it's twice as expensive as cheapo paper but you get what you pay for. If this fails do a test in which your "MS Word" document has the pages numbered and see where the insertion occurs. The firmware upgrade would be the next step.

Thanks for your reply.Problem being is that they use cheapy paper because 'all paper is the same!!'.I might try and get back with some of our branded stuff from the office.

I've got a sneaky feeling its gonna be firmware though.Just wish I could have proved it.

Also look at the document being printed. Sometimes you get a page just a little too long and you get blanks in with it.

          Thanks for your reply.

Its not when its printing from the network, I've had that before and it was PCL6 causing that, it's when it's copying.

I have heard of a bad batch of torque limiters on these and the Katana range.
Can you see the "extra" sheets come out or are they stuck to another sheet?
