MP161 , MP171, MP201 Side Door?

I have been seeing a lot of side doors by the latch handle break and have to replace the whole door. Is there a mod that someone has come up with to make that half moon piece of plastic more rigid. If so id like to mod these doors so i don't have to replace so many of them in the future. Also they aren't cheap, i think they are just under $100.

Those are pretty old machines. It sounds like either those pieces got brittle thanks to heat from the fuser or the users aren't being patient enough when opening and closing that door. (Heh, I still carry the fuser duplex guide as car stock because of that.)
If you ever take any of those back on a trade in, it's actually pretty productive to harvest that door off those machines. And easy too.

Hi

One of our techs has come up with an emergency fix by drilling 2 small holes in the door and threading a white cable tie strap through the holes and around the shaft of the door release (keeping the catch part inside the door so that only a little bit of the cable tie is visible outside). This seems to hold up so far.
