mp 2851 has nice dark prints but light copies. cleaned all optics. looking for adjustment for copies that is permanent.

these tend to do this when the drum is worn out.
also if it is only on one side the scanner may be bent down. try lifting up on the the left side of the op panel if that is the case. -

I would try to clean CCD camera, lens in optics and also the laser unit.Comment

& just to add even as prints are good a dirty last glass will cause faint copies (pull the lass out to clean 1 screw & toner cover)Let us eat, drink, and be merry, because tomorrow we may die!

If that machine has manual gamma adjustments in the scanner section of service mode, they might help. But you need to be really careful with them, because if you goof up wrong and stupid things will happen.Comment

I would start with the basics what is the pm count on the pcu and transfer roller if you are over or at PM time I would do that first and see if your issue resolves. If your PM was recent make sure the transfer roller was also done sometime in the last 150k pages. Clean the slit glass that slides out under the toner hopper, and clean the optic mirriors. That pretty much cures most problems with these.Comment
