I'm a kon/min tech. Don't want to turn away any new business.

Getting black lines when printing. Was going to rebuild the drum unit even though drum doesn't look that bad. Doesn't look hard to do with directions in service manual. Any tips to rebuilding these? What codes do I need to run with new drum?

It is only half way through pm, can I replace just the drum,cleaning blade,charge roller & brush and not developer?

B0399510, AD027018, AD041114. No SP modes need to be run if you are just replacing the drum, 2801 if you change the dev.

You might want to try cleaning the charge roller. If it comes back then replace the charge roller and cleaning blade. If you are not getting drum spots then you don't need to replace the drum.

If cleaning the charge roller does not fix the problem, check to see if the line corresponds to the position of the stripper pawls or thermistors in the fusing unit.

Just a question. Are you sure the lines are not coming from the hot roller?

You can use a complete Drum Type 1027 for these models. Fits most Ricoh B&Ws, and doesn't require much modification to get to work.

For this model, all you need to do is cut off the lower black pin from the drum's front cover, and it will fit.

These drums usually last about 40-60k before showing signs of wear. (Depending on coverage)

How hard is it? looking at the service manual it doesn't look too bad but I remember rebuilding a Ricoh drum unit several years ago and it was a real bitch!

Any tricks to rebuilding one of these drum units?

While I don't work on anything that new, I found keeping the mag/dev roller level when removing it was kind of important when working on older versions of that chassis. There weren't any clips holding the gears on the roller then, and apparently there were magic gear attractants underneath the cabinets of those machines.

Just be sure to check the gears on the development roller assembly and in the lower development case. If the gears on the roller assembly are worn, they can be replaced, B0393060 &B0393062. If the gears in the lower case are worn the case will have to be replaced. Also if there is a build up of depleted developer around the gears in the lower case, the case will need to be replaced. Inspect before you dump the developer. If the lower case needs to be replaced, wait until you get the case before replacing the developer. That way you only have to pour the new developer into the new case.

These are pretty easy, to separate the top and dev case you take 2 screws from the left (one is behind the upper case) and 3 screws from the right side (drum facing you) remove the auger drive. Flip top towards back so its upside down, remove plastic pin from left side holding the charge/cleaning roller white bushing in place, remove white clip holding drum, remove drum, charge, cleaning rollers, remove 2 screws to take out cleaning blade. toss those parts.

Developer casing has 1 screw left side, 2 screws right side, remove mag roller by tilting it toward you and lift left side. (have a garbage bag or large paper ready. clean off mag roller, turn dev unit over to dump out developer and vacuum it out, inspect/clean white and black gears on right side of case and mag roller. once everything is clean, pour in developer, install top of dev unit, install mag roller.

install your cleaning blade, then charge/cleaning rollers, then drum. put your locking pin in bushing, install drum clip, then re-attach top casing to developer casing, put all your screws back in. install in machine go to sp mode and run SP for developer initialization 2801.

All done.
