    GlobalScan and SOP

    Greetings, Earthlings,

Has anyone successfully gotten GlobalScan (current version is 2.3.3) to work on any of the SOP machines?

The product support guide for GlobalScan, last updated for 2.2, says it's not supported.

I called Support, and never got a definitive answer.

I have heard that SOP will be supported in GSNX 2.4, but that's a ways out.

We are starting to see quite a few SOPs out there now, and it's only a matter of time until we run into it.

I just dodged one yesterday, where the customer has a new MP 5054 with SOP, but they luckily decided we install on their C 3003 without SOP instead. Phew!

Did you need to do any tricks, or just a normal install ?

There was a time when the SOP was first introduced that they did not yet have the proper version of JAVA to run on the droid OS. I believe that that has been corrected.

                Thanks for the replies.

On a similar note, is it safe to use RIM to install an app (GSNX, SLP, etc) on an SOP machine?

I heard that if it tries to update the firmware, as RIM will, RIM will attempt to install standard, non- SOP versions, and cause problems if there is a difference.

I used RIM to do my install, it only updated Java not the firmware
