Reset password on a MP 4054

    Hi,

A former employee changed the admin AND supervisor password on our copier. We had a change in our network and the copier being set up with a static IP, we can't do anything from the network.
I reset the interface parameters using SP mode ( 5-801-011) and now it's worse... The copier is indeed using DHCP as I wanted but some other settings have been changed and I can't change them back without admin access.

Is there any way to gain admin access without a NVRAM replacement ? Ricoh is slow to react and we really need to use the scanner fonction.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

Yes you can reset the admin password word in special SP mode as follows:

    Reset, 1,4,3 press C then hold C

Once in special SP mode, go to SP direct 5-846-046

This will rest the Admin password to default (admin & password blank)
it will however clear the address book, if you need this information back it up first in SP mode SP5-846-051 put your SD card in slot 2 (service slot)

    EDITED NOW CORRECT!

      Hello !

Thanks for the help, but it isn't working. I did get in SP mode using your code ( I was using 806182 prior to that ) but no "Special SP" button, only a "System SP" and a conspicuous blank after that. And in System SP, 5-843-046 does not exist, from SP-Direct or browsing the menu.

It's ok, the SP he quoted is wrong.

            My bad, should be SP5-846-046

Issue is that even Ricoh doesn't spread this information around internally freely. They changed the main SP access due to it being too well known. If factory mode gets too easy to find they may just decide to change that too.

It would be better to PM such information than posting it in the open. Helping someone out is one thing but taking a step towards screwing us all is not cool. Sleep well.

You will when Ricoh put out a firmware update that changes it and you need to use it. Some of the SPs that used to be in normal System SP are now in Factory SP.

Factory SP is not even taught during training classes. It is not contained in an service manual, at least that I know of.

While it does come up from time to time (it's bound to) it is strictly taboo to discuss.

I have been told that at least one person was fired for giving it out.

Oh well like I send i'm not going to loose any sleep! I actually found that special mode on this site anyway.
Ricoh will not change a major SP mode just because it is posted on this little site, infact it would be better as if Ricoh do frequently change it then only us certified technicians would know it!

So if reading this is any techs needing firmware just put a request on here i'll be glad to help

Are you not aware that this site is open to everybody, and not just cerified techs?

While one site may not be enough to prompt the change, it's certainly a huge step in the wrong direction.

It will be thanks to people like you that those of us who should have this info will have to struggle to get it. Again, it is NOT freely distributed.

It worked beautifully, many thanks ! We finally have regained control over our copier ( a tech tried to give us admin access before, couldn't do it.) there is some settings I wanted to change for some time now but I was unable to. The network one was the proverbial drop of water...

Though I'm glad you were kind enough and able to help me, I can understand the argument from the others. The code you give freely here renders all security on Ricoh copier basically useless ( except there will be a trace that the reset took place). It wouldn't have bothered me to ask by PM ( but maybe receiving dozens of PM is not something you want, I can understand that.)
