    C5502 SC 549

Hi, All. Just FYI, I recently rebuilt a c5502 fuser and about 5 minutes after I installed it, the machine threw a SC549 code. Come to find out, one of the lamp terminal connectors wasn't even connected to the lamp. It completely came out with no effort. "No biggie", I thought to myself, "I have another brand new sleeve assembly" (D1444032). I checked to make sure the connectors were secure and installed it. Ten minutes later it threw a sc549 code. A continuity check revealed an open lamp. I'm really starting to dislike this model because of the fuser design and extremely sensitive sleeve, and now added worries that new replacement parts are possibly defective. WTF.

I agree, Ricoh has some totally sh!tty designs!...the sleeve on these particular designs reminds me of a HP color laser printer that I used to have!....it had a fusing sleeve!--I know, 'cause I *accidentally* sent a sheet of inkjet photo paper through it--had to laboriously clean it off!...that was a "note to self" moment!...never again!.....anyway, with your MP C5502 rebuild kit, did you install the "reset fuse" that came in the rebuild kit???

PS--another reason I've come to hate Ricoh!...these "rebuilds" (fuser, pcu, etc.) put the bulk of failure and responsibility of the rebuild on the the tech/service company!...I much more prefer Kyocera...you get a brand new fuser that is *SERIALIZED* and if it fails within (I believe) 90 days of installation, it can be returned for replacement!...Kyocera WANTS to know why a design of theirs failed!--and they FIX IT!....ricoh on the other hand really doesn't give a sh!t!

Strange, I have never had a problem with new sleeve. The only reason I have ever had to replace one, other than normal PM cycle, is when the customer has damaged one.

As long as the Kyocera is up to the latest firmware version, they will replace any failed part at no cost if it does not make yield. There is no time limit. They have their problems but parts yield is not one of them

You're above information is correct for the "named part" that comes in the machine when the complete machine is purchased new and installed. A fuser is warranted to make full yield on a brand new machine. Any subsequently installed new additional "named part" that is installed after the initially new part, carries the 90 day warranty for replacement failure.

Please correct me if I wrong in this matter and send me any supporting information!...Thanks!

On a good note, I was just at a lawyer's office the other day to replace a fuser unit....they have a TaskAlfa 4551ci. The MFG's projected yield for the fuser, is 300k. I replaced the fuser at 395k!!! WoW!!!

PS--the replacement was for a quality issue...toner had gotten behind the stripper plate and run a line in the fuser pressure roller collecting toner and leaving offset!...other than this issue, there were no other visible problems with the fuser!

I have also had a few faulty fuser sleeves, when I say faulty the lamps are actually broken, tipping it up & a pile of glass falls out!

However I have been using just the sleeve part & reusing the old lamps no issues so far doing this.

For authorizes Ricoh tech in the US, call the hot line or a chat session on TSRC. Get a case number, document what they have you do. If the problem continues to occur, call back with the same case number and ask to have it escalated. Then go to TSM Request site and submit a request. Your regional rep will then contact you to arrange for a visit to assist you in the problem.
