    MPC3001 printing on tray 4

    Hi

Question from customer, he has very expensive paper in tray 4 on which some work-clients may not use this tray.
Is it possible to block some users for printing on tray 4 ?
I wonder if you can configure this in the driver or must it be on network level?

    someone....thanks in advance

If you set up tray 4 as special paper etc the machine wont feed from tray 4 when the remaining 3 trays run out.

I understand, but is it possible to put a restriction on some users to avoid using the tray anyway . .

I checked and Print Driver Editor does not have settings to disable user access to individual trays. You might try Print Driver Packager NX. It is a rather large download but has a lot more options. There might also be a way through Windows Policy Editor and/or Group Policy editor. Or you can check out some of the other print management apps/software.

If he's that concerned, I assume he's also going to put a padlock on the paper drawer, to keep his employees from stealing it too

I's simply turn off auto tray switching on tray 4 then tell the other users not to choose tray 4 when printing if they do charge 'em!!

This applies to printing only, but you can set the driver to use a single lower tray.

Control Panel > Devices and Printers / Printers and Faxes (XP) > Right-click driver > Printer Properties / Properties (XP) > Accessories > Tick Lower Paper Tray (instead of Trays).

Now their driver will only show trays 1 to 3.

This will either have to be done on each PC, or on the server (depending on how the driver is setup) and then changed for users who are allowed to use the tray.

For optional added security, go to Printer Properties > Security, and untick Manage Printer from the user groups that should not be allowed to change the driver settings. If the driver is on the server this is usuall true anyway.

Excellent point! Take the expensive stuff from tray 4, put it in tray 1 and print away
