Ricoh Aficio MP C4500 error ?

I am getting an SC865-01 error.

I believe this is the Hard disk drive. Any easy way to correct or does it have to be replaced?

    Thank you in advance.

Check all connectors first by removing and then reseating them. Format the drive after that if it still fails.

    Replacement is the next option

This 2HDD model is a bit "sensitive" if the customer doesn't power the machine down properly to ensure a proper spindown. Usually formating the drives should fix the problem.

Because the machine uses two drives in a raid configuration you have to format both drives using an IDE to USB device, and using disk manager on windows (XP).
once the drive is connceted right click on my computer and go to manage
select disk manager and you newley connected drive should show.
if the disk isnt initialized you should right click on the gray box with the drive information in it and select initialize disk.
then right click on the long bad with the blue bar running through it and select create partition, follow the partition wizard (make sure you do a quick format or you will be there forever) once the format is done right click on the white and blue bar again and delete the partition once done repeat the process on the other drive once the two drives are done put back into the machine and the machine should rebuild the raid set.
if either HDDs fail when formatting then replace that drive with one of equal size (its normaly only one drive that fails).
I hope this is of some use and im not telling you how to suck eggs.

That's a good solution if the error occured at every startup. Fortunately I always had luck to get the machine working (after some power off/on cycles) and using the service program formatting feature to force a raid-rebuild. One of our customers has two MPC3500 and both had this problems. Finally we found out that they have a kind of "kill switch" to power down the whole office (except servers). No more problems since we've sitched the MPCs over to the redundant server power supply

Thats definetly a better choice if you can get into service mode.
but just a word of advice if they are on the same supply as the servers then maybe a surge protect may be a good idea because the MPC3500
and 4500 have a history of blowing power supplies and when they go
they knock out everything i have had this problem on at least 16 machines
now and they always knock out the mains supply.

Never heard of this issue but we haven't a lot 3500/4500er in the field so thanks for the info.

Well - the server stuff is USV/UPS protected so I guess the MPC can't cause much damage there but on the other hand those protectors aren't very expensive so I'm gonna suggest that.

I have just checked the technical bulletin and it seems that the problem is reserved for 230/240v type PSUs, maybe thats why.

We have 230V/50Hz current here in Germany, too. Nothing regarding this issue is listed in the tech/modi bulletins wich are accessible at the german ricoh-service-gate for me (just checked both english and the german translated). Maybe there are other legal based differences between the PCBs.

Just checked the parts number - it's AZ24-0110

Likewise, I've replaced at least 8 and now keep a PSU for this model on my car. Apparently when they let go it makes a hell of a bang! RCD's aplenty for these machines methinks!

                    Hit it.

my clients Aficio MPC4500 ran up okay, no errors, but wouldn't work at all, wouldn't even get into service mode, so i removed the HDD's & at least i could copy, print & enter service mode

tried this procedure,, both HDD's formatted fine (NTFS format), deleted partitions on both, put them back in the machine & got SC860

attempted service mode format & got FAILED

                      any suggestions?

Don't use NTFS as the format will be Ricoh proprietary. If I have to erase a drive externally, I do not set up partitions. I reinstall in the machine and then let the machine auto format it, then I run sp 5832 format all and reboot. The Ricoh's won't recognize the NTFS format or partitions. Either use the drives OEM utility's to erase it , or I use Miray hard drive shredder to do this.
