According to the service manual, developer initialization on the 54's is automatic.

MP 6002 is the same as for most other B/W machines. 2801-2 to enter lot number form developer bag, 2801-1 to initialize.

I think the 54s only auto initialize if you set the SP code for developer replacement beforehand

You're right. If only replacing the developer, set SP 3701-024 before turning off the machine. After replacing the developer, turn the machine back on and developer will be initialized and counter reset. Be sure to follow the service manual.

(edit...This is for the 54 series machines only) I'm sorry guys but Ricoh corrected me on this. You are supposed to remove all toner from the hopper by vacuuming and making sure no toner is left when the shutter in the rear of the machine for the dv unit is opened.
Then we are to follow the install instructions for a new machine. These are found on page 2-13 thru 2-19. I have been having overtoning issues and hopefully this is why. Also, they recommend doing a previous version of firmware before updating it and not to use the 'all' option.

              Hello

You mean to downgrade the Firmware before changing developer??...and why?

There is nothing in the service manual or any bulletins about this. I have been following the instructions in the service manual and everything is working good.
