Hi Neo,

I had use a 128MB really old SD Card ... I put this card into slot 1 = it not works, it only find the firmware on slot 2.

But, when I start the Firmware Installation procedure, I get the Error E34 Download failed. But what's wrong with the files?
How can I check these files?

Start with a fresh download of the firmware and a newly formatted SD card. If that does not work, get a new SD card (any size) and partition it to 512MB using minitools partition wizard (see my previous reply).

by this way:

1. I use a 128 MB SD Card. I formatted this card unter Windows 10 / FAT Filesystem.
Maybe it's important. Should I prefer FAT or FAT32? Which Clustersize? 1024, 2048, 4096 ... Bytes?

2. Some of the Firmware Upgrades are worked properly from the same SD-Card. Engine, System/Copy (...) are successfully upgraded.
But only the Printer and Scanner started immediately after Press "OK" for start the Upgrade with a "Download E44 Error". I Suppose
that the SD-Card is defekt (unlikely, mostly of the other Modules are worked), wrong location (I use SD Card Slot 2), wrong folder
(but I use /romdata directly. Was a hint of an Ricoh technician) or that all other Upgrades are stored in an other Flashrom but the
Printer and Scanner had a specialy seperated Flashrom ...

How can I check the Firmwarefiles about the correct release and correct printer.

Firmware Update Procedure (As per MP171 service Manual)

machine with SP7-801-255.

-SD Card Preparation-

1. Format an SD card with, for example, SD Formatter v1.1.

2. Create a "romdata" folder on the card.

3. Create the following folders within the "romdata" folder: B121, B620, B622, B658, B681, B685

4. Download the firmware from the server and store the files in the folder with the corresponding model
code on the SD card.

Example:

File B1215540B should be stored in the "B121" folder, whereas files B6585902B, B6585903B,and B6585905B should be stored in the "B658" folder.

-Firmware Update-

you want.

1. Turn off the main power switch.

2. If the machine is connected to a network, disconnect the network cable from the copier.

3. Remove the interface cover ( x 1)

4. With the label on the SD card facing the rear side of the machine, insert the SD card into the slot 2
on the controller box. Slowly push the SD card into the slot so it locks in place.

5. Make sure the SD card is locked in place.
(To remove the SD card, push it in to unlock the spring lock and then release it so it pops out of theslot.)

thanks to all ... It won't work ...

Scann and Printer aren't not upgradable. Maybe here are Technicians. Where is the physical difference between the Upgrade of the System/Copy, Engine
and the Printer and Scanner Firmware? Is there are a different Flashrom? Or is it possible to change the source? After I press the Upgrade Key, btw. for
functional Fax Firmware Upgrade, the Screen change to Loading .. Some Asterisk are displayed. If I do the same with the Printer / Scannerfirmware the
Screen changes immediately after the "Upgrade" Button to "E44 ...". It looks like that the Load Routine don't find the File. But the file exists!

What can I test? I'm really sure, that the SD-Card and the folders are ok. I used the SD Formatter FAT16 ... and the Windows 10 Formatter. Same result.

You obviously fairly tech savvy Michael.
Why not simply install an FTP server (Ie: Filezilla), and be done with it?
It's non-firmware dependent, and works well with any version of Windows

You haven't accidently write protect the SD card when you load the firmware by any chance ?

I'm not 100% sure with this model but if the NVRAM is removed a copy still exists in the MBU.

It's appears like there is a memory error lock condition in the machine.
I'm wondering if clearing the NCS might jog the memory clear for the print/scan firmware, I have seen this happen on colour machines ?
Try downloading the NVRAM to a different SD card then reload the NVRam back onto the system it may jog something.

I assume the MFD fully works for all else except the scan/print.
Assuming you have a clean working version of firmware.
Clear the E44 with 1,4,3 c/s.

Remove all other firmware off the SD/VM card an only load the scan/print firmware onto the SD card.Place the SD card in the MFD slot-2 and try to reload the firmware again.

D0675528C.fwu (this Fax Firmware need I to clear the E44/E32 143 c/s Error. I working upgrade clear the Error)
D4685525E.fwu (Scanner)
D4685540F.fwu (Printer)

By this way, I had played with thought to send the Files to somebody to check the Firmware in with an 171 SPF ...

Yes of course, I had the same thoughts. I looks like the Firmware or Flashrom is writeprotected. I had all do, I had
changed the SD-Card, thes is not writeprotected. But only the FTP Server, I don't checked it out and your hint
to write and load the NVRAM. But I must advice the Servicemanual. Or do you have a short description for me?

Is any possibility, a Softwareswitch to writeprotect the FlashROM/NVRAM?

Does not require firmware update. If the has scanning, folder or email, simply setup an address book. Set the protocol to FTP, enter the path and authentication information. I have an apartment complex using a MP171 with scan to FTP.

Being an independent Tech I no longer have direct access to the latest firmware updates.
If you post a directory listing of your firmware (as shown in the example below), the guys with access to the latest firmware can check your files are the correct date,time and byte size.

In a command prompt window do the following :
type dir, <right mouse click> , <click mark> ,<left click mouse & drag the highlight block over the screen> , <press enter key> , paste to CTN post here.

As you can see in the above command Dir list example I don't have the latest print scan firmware.

If your file sizes are the same when compared to someone else's latest firmware listing,you may like to check the MD5 hash of the firmware file to make sure something is not amiss in the actual file data itself. Cyber hackers are forever getting sneaky with their fetish computer habits.

thats the filesize of the Files.

I checked the files by an hexeditor. Im not sure, but I found difference between the working Fax File
and the by example Scanner files. Is the "/mnt/sd0 .. /sd1 oder /usb2" the mountpoint of the source-
files?


Fax:

Scanner:
/mnt/sd0/module/scan.mod
/mnt/sd1/module/scan.mod

As Slim said, You just need to set the protocol to FTP in the Web Monitor, and enter the IP address and authentication details for your server/PC.
There is no firmware update or otherwise required - that's the beauty of it!
It was compatible with Windows Server 2012 or Win10 before they were even concepts

of course. The initial Problem "Scan2folder" was solved since install Firmware 9.07 ... It works perfectly unter Windows 10
But I want Upgrade the Scanner and Printer Firmware, too. Thats the problem.
