[Dead] MPC6501 dead with only power on light

    Good evening, punters!

We've got this cancer MPC6501 which appears to be dead. When turning on the main switch, the only symptoms are the power led on the panel and a fan somewhere turning on.

I'm still to see it personaly, since it was just checked by a colleague before the customer closed for the holidays, but he so far managed to check the fuses (all appear to be ok).

Anyone ever got this? What could I be looking at here?

    Thank you.

On the older mpc2500/2800/3300 when you have only green led and nothing else on the display, usualy in the lasser module the polygon mirror motor is burned plus 1 smd fuse (1mm long) beside the harness on the pcb

Maybe you have the same issue.

You got a dead MPC6501? Hooray. It can't be repaired
If you really want to repair it check the control panel. On the MPC2050, which have the same symptom, after replacing everything it was the op panel

My money says controller is bad. I've seen this a hundred times on these things.

Does the machine has a HDD? If so, if time permits, check that. If it is OK, everybody else other than me is probably right.
Just as a bit of a historical perspective due to the fact that I don't work on anything that new at the moment, it might not hurt to check the wiring harnesses and connections between the IOB and the user interface too. Sometime the wiring harnesses are routed weirdly, and hopefully as you already know there is a surprisingly small difference between a fully seated connector and one that is not.

Thank you all for your replies.

Went to the machine yesterday and tried disconnecting HDD, disconnecting all peripherals, opening up all trays, duplex and fusing unit - none of it made any difference.

When powering up it powers up the controller (the fan and leds light up), the power led on the op panel and nothing more.

Will order the PSU, the OP Panel and the Controller and see how it goes from here.

              Thanks again!

A dead MPC6501 you say? I would consider it a blessing and sell them a new machine. Your vacuum and PM tech will thank you

Ended up being a busted PSU. Thank you all for your insights.
