copying checks and sometimes customer gets black copy? bank protection?

hi
i set up a ricoh mpc3501 to a law firm and their office manager tells me some checks copy "black" as if their is some sort of
bank software at work?
i didnt get to see the check in question nor the copy.
is this possible?

It sounds like counterfeit protection to me. Simply changing to monochrome and or enlargement/reduction should work around that. =^..^=

Like Blackcat said, either set to copy in monochrome, or change the reproduction ratio.

And, no, there is no way to turn that feature off.

If I remember correctly from my philatelic pursuits years ago, I think you can enlarge or reduce the image and stop this. I seem to remember enlarging or reducing the image by between 15 to 20% would do the trick. I don't remember exactly though, so you probably will have to play around with that.

It is due to a pattern that is in the background one checks, currency, stock certificates and other documents. I usually recommend reducing 15% to 20% to my customers who have a need to copy checks. Monochrome versus color does not work as many of the documents that this is in tended to protect from copying are monochrome. Reduction has another benefit for the customer if they are copying checks that they are getting ready to deposit, you can get more on a single page.

i will pass this along,if i know this accnt i think they would only copy cks in b/w mode full size..
so if one was to scan this check, would the saved image be as it is or protected?

The scan should act exactly the same as the copy.

I had a Sharp that they complained that it would not scan. In that particular original set, there was a copy of US currency. I don't know how they got the copy, but the scan of the copied image errored for counterfeit protection each time it was scanned. =^..^=

Staples sells these poly files "http://www.staples.com/File-Folders/cat_CL141669?fids=4225013166" that if you split them open so they cover the glass you can lay down the checks on top of them and it will allow the checks to be copied and scanned. The green worked the best.

sounds like you have it handled. Just wanted to add my experience. If the copier has "greyscale" and "black and white" Choose black and white. I had this issue on a Konica Minolta 223 that would still pick up the hologram in greyscale.

Only the checks with the shiny square bar seal on them, safety/security so they wont be reproduced. Copy b/w you will be ok.
