Mpc 3502 with SR 3090 finisher

I have seen several of this combination that get finisher jams feeding out the top tray only. The paper gets half way out and trips code 100. Looks to me like the exit motor is too slow. I can reconfigure the output to get around it but I have seen same fault a few times now on low mile machines. Anyone know whats going on ? cheers

One possibility is that someone has moved the machine and in doing so has used the finisher entrance guide, or the mount plate for it, as a lift point. This can bend the mount plate, which is also the lower guide through the entry roller.

When it is jamming, is the paper wrinkled or totally not?

I've learned that any bits that stick out, especially on finishers, will be used as handles by the Cletii (plural of Cletus) that are often used to move machines. We even have it in our contracts that only we can move machines.

Check any parts of the finisher where someone could have grabbed it and wrenched.

Also check the gate that diverts paper to either upper or lower trays.

had another look at it today and it seems to be working fine (which is another symptom of this fault) . Cant see any damage from the Cletus, every thing looks straight. The rubbishy jam code explanation doesn't say whether its lag or late so its business as usual with that .

'CLETUS' is now my tourette's go to word. Thanks for that. ................... Cletus !! .....

Update the finisher firmware that should fix it

totally not , it doesn't seem to hit anything if that's what you mean.

The machine firmware is current but I,m not sure if the finisher is updateable

Yes you can. Latest revision is D5885300B.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                Hit it.

Unplug, and plug back in, every connector on the finisher main board...
It might be an electromagnetic disturbing field around the finisher?
I have had this once on a aficio 200, which - if it was against the wall - jammed; when it was away from that wall it worked fine!

Seems to be very powerful data-cables in that wall that created an disturbing electromagnetic field.
                  Tja...

It's bad enough having disturbed engineers, never mind disturbed machines.

I haven't seen that on the c5502, but I have on a lot of c5503s. Different finisher of course, but maybe similar enough. On those it's been what Slimslob is talking about. Most times I've been able to unscrew the lower guide & bend (Adjust?) the screw tabs on the guide to get it back up & running.

If you hear a funny noise almost like the motors just tried to stop, reformate the HDD. I have had this on this same finisher twice, and once on an older sr790 finisher, it would only jam if output to the top tray but ran fine if sent to stack tray. After I fought one replacing the motors, the belts, the I/O board, sensors, brackets, bridge unit, even swapped it with a whole other 3090 finisher and it still happened. i finally just decided what the hell the finisher only operates with an HDD so i figured a corruption in the HDD could cause finisher to not work. So i saved address book and reformatted HDD and all 3 times i had this happen it cured the problem.

i actually had a post on this forum for help on the same thing, a mp-c4502 with the 3090 finisher.
