    MPC3501 not shutting down

    Hi all,

I have a Staples MPC3501 refurb that is not entering auto power off mode properly and does not shut down when you press the top panel power button.

When you press the button or auto power off enables the fuser pressure comes off as you can hear the motor. As this is happening the button blinks green. You then hear a click/clunk and the light stops flashing as it should (the machine to left works fine). One second later you hear the click/clunk happen again, the fuser pressure sounds like it comes back on and the light blinks continually. The panel stays black. If you lift the document feeder or put paper in the machine usually wakes up and comes ready. The customer complaint is the machine will be in auto power off mode and the customer walks up with a print job on a USB stick and it won't wake up. I have only seen that issue once and the machine would not wake up. I opened doors, pressed all the buttons, document feeder, put paper in the feeder. Only a power cycle with the master switch fixed this.

    So far i have:
Updated ALL firmware with special attention to copy/system and the energy save.
    Formatted the hard drive
    Unplugged the hard drive
    Unplugged the document feeder
(I left the DF open on both machines and shut them down, they both react the same way. Light just blinks, when you close the feeder the machine powers up. When DF is shut one shuts down properly the other does not which i think can rule out that little sensor on the back right hinge keeping things awake.)

Something seems to wake the copier up after it shuts down but it does not come fully ready.

    Any suggestions?

Usually there is a fan that is still running. After 30 seconds, you can turn off the main power.

Re : Shut down when button pressed.
Panel button stuck down or PCB cracked/broken from over use ?

      Re: Wake but no ready:
How old is the fuser unit ? Is the fuser unit coming up to temperature at the required time ?

I'm thinking along the lines of large corrupt print file, duplicate IP from random PC, or maybe the network hardware is polling the MFD for a new IP. To eliminate the network polling issues what happens when the network cable is unplugged from the MFD ?
Does the MFD wake from standbye mode and stay in suspension/limbo ?

I swapped the fusers around already and I pulled the HDD and NIC cable at the same time.
Apparently the machine ran fine over the long weekend even though the button is blinking. I spoke with Ricoh tech support and they suggested a controller. As long as it always wakes keeps waking up now it has updated firmware i think i will leave it for now.

        Thanks

May be nothing but I vaguely remember an issue on an older model with the energy saver timers.
I forget the details but basically you don't want any of them set to the same time.

They do seem to have a penchant for suggesting expensive parts. Boards especially. BUT that is just my opinion/experience.

We have found it often cheaper to buy a used machine when a board goes bad. Not only do you get a working board, but you also get a bunch of other working parts.

With how small we are I don't think my boss will bite on that option lol.

Something to try before replacing boards:

                  Re: Blinking light ....
Does the machine have a fax option installed ?
Could it be a jammed fax job? I have reset the fax ram(Sp 5101? sp 5102?) and deleted all the fax files.
I know I have fixed a one or two machines like that.

I also had and MP6001 with a blinking light issue. I can't recall exactly what I did in SP mode. I believe I may have reset the NCS while in SP mode.

The moral of the above story is that it jogs a memory clear and the system appears to settle down again.
