    Ricoh MP 401, wtb near full

    ok, this is about to drive me nuts. there is no wtb per se. its part of the pcdu. i replaced pcdu, still has msg, reset pm counter. still has message. updated firmware per tech support (it was already at the version that was supposed to stop this message). now tech support is saying to replace engine board. i have ran 5801 2 and 6, and 3800 as well.

    anyone seen this or cleared it?

      I haven't personally seen this problem yet.
      The latest engine firmware (1.27:09) corrects the "Waste Toner full alert appears earlier than expected" but the previous version (1.26:09) also describes "Waste Toner full is displayed earlier than expected because the connection between the toner cartridge terminal and the connector on the mainframe is loose".
      So is something wrong with the toner cartridge or would replacing the toner cartridge fix it?

          not sure and neither is tech support. had the message on it, i replaced the pcdu and its still there. not sure what the heck is happening. tech support thinks i need to replace the engine board, i'm thinking bad pcdu. we have sent email to regional rep to pick his brain on it.

              The Waste Toner message appears, due to the "rounding off " of the contacts in the machine that contact the ID chip on the PCDU or Toner Cartridge. It is recomended that both the PCDU and Toner contacts be changed as a pair. Only one set of contacts is shown in the Parts Manual M1873360 - CONNECTOR:ID_CHIP. but this part is correct for both the Toner and PCDU. Order 2 of M1873360 and replace both.


              Not sure if this will help-it's for the printer model-same engine

                  When you replaced the drum did you do the new unit set SP? that might clear it.

                      UPDATE: issue resolved. customer put a new toner cartridge in it this morning and message went away.

                          Yep...
                          had this happen on a customer's machine a few months back.
                          The customer said she was far too busy to fit a new toner cartridge so she was running it til it was dry and this message pops up when the toner gets dangerously low.
                          Fit a new toner and the message goes away.
