    AF 1022 ADF issue

I've got an ADF that will not feed. The jam code is 005, late to reg sensor. The paper deck raises to feed in but the pickup roller never drives to feed into the machine. Oddly enough, the machine will still make a blank copy even with the paper never feeding and a jam display on the op panel.
Output checks all seem good, but the feed system never drives even though the motors run. I'm thinking the clutch is going out, or not giving enough oomph to get the paper through.
    Any ideas???

I got an idea, but I am no Ricoh expert. If you take of the front cover of the document feeder (operator side) and look to the left you will see a gear that drives part of the feed system. If you rotate the jam release wheel you will see this gear turning. Check and see if it is just slipping on the shaft. I have had to replace them before for this reason ... and in a pinch some super glue will hold it in place on the shaft until you do the replacement.

There may be other things that could cause your symptoms. My experience is limited.

Check that the small belt that drives the pickup roller is not to loose.

Over time and heavy use the metal pickup roller shaft can ware the hole down on the plastic bracket by a few mm.
The result is the belt loses tension and the pickup roller slips under load causing a misfeed (late).

Clutches rarely go faulty on document feeders.

You also should take a look for bad one way pulleys. On some DF's there is one of them inside the roller wich drives the feed belt. It should be not too hard to figure out what's the problem - just do a test while keeping the cover open and see what's going on there.

Also the pu roller bracket could be broken. See if the plastic around the pressure springs is broken.small black piece near springs can break.

Found that the issue was the feed clutch. I swapped it out with one that was known to be good and everything came back fine...
