Ricoh mpc "toner near end" => replace bottle premature

    Hello,
Some customers replace toner at "near end" in stead of "replace toner now".
So we end up collecting "empty" toner bottles who are filled for 1/3...
Specially for contracts it is undesirable.
How do you cope with this situation?

3101-013-016 on the older MPC's, 3110-001-004 on the newer, set them all to 5g. In the end, it's a matter of battering it into the customer to change the toner when the bottle is empty, not at near end. If they change a half full toner, bill them for a full toner. They'll soon stop.

    Hit it.

leave the half empty bottles with them and tell them to reuse them!!

We also designed stickers for the machines that explicitly say replace toner when asked or there may be charges.

I dunno why customers feel the need to change toners BEFORE the machine stops and tells them to.

        It's pretty basic stuff.

In this regard Canon have the right idea of having locked toner doors that only release when the bottle is empty and ready to be changed, it is a nice feature.

TonerMunkeh: could it be a solution to put the above values on 0, so no "toner near end" is displayed?
Of course, in that case customer needs to always have a spare set of toners...
          What do you think?

The problem with that is if the customer gets no warning that the bottle is about to run out and has no time to order spares. There is also a possibility of the developer being shafted it the machine runs out and tries to add toner like mad. Just leave it at 5g.

No. You will run into a situation where the machine sees a negative value of toner remaining in the bottle and just replacing the cart will not clear the "add toner" indication. If you completely disable toner end and the machine runs out of toner, it will continue to run possibly damaging machine components.

I change this setting to "1" on all my machines works a treat, customer still gets a toner new empty message but if they replace the toner early theres only minimal waste!

There are four things that have to do with detecting the amount of toner. The TD sensor and ID sensor assembly determine if toner needs to be added to the developer. The % used stored on the RFID chip and in memory is used to determine toner near end and the toner remaining ICON. The toner sensor that is mounted on the back of the toner nozzle determines when the toner is actually out. As long as the toner sensor is not bad, printing/copying will be disabled when 50 copies after the toner runs out no matter what SP settings are.

There are three things that will deplete the developer. The toner sensor being bad, the toner pump being bad or a clogged toner supply.

I've done this to come back a week later to find the toner bottles bagged up for the trash but still having toner in them. This same client also bought toner from officemax online when they have a contract that includes toner. At least they bought actual Ricoh toner...

We had experimented on this setting SP-3110 by lowering it down. (03/metis series) It turned out to be a good gamble

We set all values to 0 here and turn off the toner indicators that are displayed at the bottom (SP5-061 I think)

The amount of revenue that has been made doing this has gone up 10 fold. Also the client will never run out of toner if @remote is setup correctly
