    Scan to Win 10 malfunction

Hi, All. Sooo, I was setting up scanning from a c3500 to a new windows 10 PC (home premium). I finally found a folder that would let me share it and give it full permissions. Good on that. Then I logged into the wim to set up the scan to folder credentials. The log in username, which was an email address, would not work as a log in name for folder authentication. Soo, ok, I'll just change the PC administrator username to something else. Wrong. No option do do so from user accounts in control panel. Sooo, I'll just use the local group editor on the OS to make the change. Wrong. It does not exist on the Home edition., Now I'm stuck. Wtf. Anybody have any ideas on this on? (I have set up scanning on a 100 PC's, including win 10 boxes, and I've not run into this)

They are loggin in to the PC with a Windows Live account. The log in account can be switched to a 'local' account which should work.

You'll have to create a local account through the control panel and WITHOUT a microsoft account!....also make sure that the network location on the pc is set to private or work...NOT public! Also, check which SMB port is being used on the pc...136 or 445? ....and while your at it, install Classic Shell Menu for the customer....they'll appreciate the added simplicity!!!

Re: Scan to Win 10 malfunction

I'm interested to see if a solution is forthcoming Mika, because I had several C2500/C3500/C4500 machines SMB scanning to Win8 boxes just fine with the custom network firmware until a couple of years ago, and then some Windows update (or something) came along, and I've not been able to get even one of them back up and running with SMB ever since, including the one in my own shop.
It's been FTP, or scan to email for all of them
Curious....do you have others that actually are working with Win 10?

          Try this:
Open a telnet connection to the copier and do the following that is in BOLD. This may fix the issue without effecting the scanning from other machines. If it does not work run the same again but make the "1" a "0" and the "445" a "139" and it will be back to default. Cycle the power after word. Be sure to tap "logout" after changing the settings and typing "yes" at the end to save the settings after logout.
          msh> smb client auth
          -Displays the current setting
          msh> smb client auth 1
          -Enables NTLMv2
          msh> logout
          -Saves data
          Setting value Result
0 (default) SMB client uses NTLM/LM authentication.
1 SMB client uses NTLMv2/NTLM/LM authentication.
Authentication level setting: The device will use only one protocol with the priority that is the highest among the available protocols. The priorities are listed in the table below. The device cannot switch between them automatically.
          Priority Authentication
          Level 0 (default) Level 1
          High
          |
          Low NTLMv1 NTLMv2
          LAN Manager NTLMv1
          Plain Text LAN Manager
          N/A Plain Text
The SMB port can be changed via Telnet:
          msh> smb client port
          -Displays the current setting
          msh> smb client port 445
          -Change port number
          Setting value Result
139 (default) SMB client uses port 139 port
445 SMB client uses port 445 port

If I am setting up a new Windows 10 computer or updating to Windows 10, I never use a windows live account. If you look at your options on the initial user setup during install there is an option to use a local account. It is also advisable to setup a secondary "Administrator" account.

Re: Scan to Win 10 malfunction

I finally got their scanning set up after changing it "local" PC. Even after that I ran into another issue. Logging into the wim using Google Chrome (like I always do)from the win 10 pc I was scanning to I was able to enter all data EXCEPT the folder authentication password. The "change"box for the password was an active box (not greyed out), but clicking on it did nothing, it would not take me to the screen where I could actually input the new password. I used my laptop (Ubuntu OS with Firefox) to log into the wim and it allowed me to input the new password without any issues. Oh, I also had to disable Mcaffe firewall to get the first successful scan, and when the firewall was reenabled the scanning still worked, even though I did not add any exceptions to the firewall. I don't understand why that worked, but it did. BTW, this version of windows 10 would not let me create a shared folder in public documents, but I was able to create a shared/full permissions folder directly on C drive. That is ass backwards from the way it normally works. Thanks for the replies and info on windows live, it helped a lot.

Sandy, I have 5 or 6 that I'm currently scanning to. An upgrade to win 10 wipes out all scanning functions and you have to start from scratch with the set up. My biggest problem is navigating through the OS. Without the search function on the OS I would be screwed as everyone has customized their look to suit their own preferences.

                  hi,

How to fix Windows 10 SMB scanning problems

Microsoft has been secretly steadily rolling out Windows 10 over the past 12 months. This in itself is not without controversy as many users found the update forced upon them with no obvious way to prevent it.
Another issue it caused was to break the sharing connection between the PC and the MFD. If you use SMB scanning to a shared folder, upgrading to Windows 10 often prevents your scan from being received.
                  Password protected Sharing
                  • Click on the Start button and type sharing.
                  • Select Manage advanced sharing settings from the list of results.
                    • [*=left]You can also find this in Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings

                  • Click on All Networks and select Turn off password protected sharing.

                  • Click the Save Changes button.

hope this mite help, had issues setting up scan folders for smb today, this fixed it

Same here. I too don't like having to find everything on other peoples custom windows GUI settings. The above is one of the reasons I'm building the iT-Toolbox software, so I can have a quick standard interface across different Windows GUI settings. I had a job a week ago where the operator changed everything around in the GUI. It's frustrating as they stand over you watching what you are doing as you try to navigate their custom GUI.

Yes getting there... I had a run of software bugs that held me back for a day or two (ok a few weeks).

The festive season is now kicking in, along with the lazy backside bug...

I had the exact same issue last week, and today with a newer MP3352, I was able to make all the network settings for scan to email , etc, but it would not allow me to access the address book. I opened Firefox on the same PC, and it worked fine.

I generally have no issues setting up scanning, except for whatever reason these old boxes, that were once working fine on Windows 8 until "something" changed.
I may have another go at it one day, but for the small number I have left, mixed with the fact that clients are fine with FTP and/or scan to email, I suppose it's not at the top of my priority list

                          Happy Holidays all!

Passwords have been required for SMB since Windows 7. For those who do not want to use a password to turn their computer on, create a user name with password to use for scanning then use netplwiz to enable turnkey operation. On the User tab highlight the user name you wish to use and uncheck the box "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer." When you click Apply you will be prompted for the password if any.
