mp2851 message "Exceeded the max number of displayable screens"

I have this MP2851 with this message "Exceeded the max number of displayable screens" they can press exit on the touch panel to get back to the default screen, but the message comes back in a while.

I can't find anything on it, I'm thinking of starting with firmware upgrade.

    Any other ideas?

Never seen it myself, but apparently several models including MP C2800, and MP5500, and MP4001 can display a similar message and log an SC994:
Op Panel mgmt. records exceeded - No action required, to many application screens open on op panel
Since "no action is required", I'm assuming that a reboot resolves it. Have they tried simply rebooting the machine?

The only time I have seen anything similar was a law office where they were trying to setup folders for every client for scanning to. I can't remember the MFP model, but when using the browse option from the scan screen or from the address book entry, it would not display more than the first 256 entries. I had to tell them to create a tree type directory structure with no more than 250 entries in each directory.
