I was helping out another tech in the area trying to set up scan to folder on a 6001. The customer swore up and down it was working on their Windows 8 workstation. Pretty sure that's not the case and upgrading to Win8 is what broke it. I digress. We installed the custom firmware for this issue. The machine will "see" the folder and allow a connection, i.e. the machine will say "Connection to PC successful." when tested. However, when something is actually scanned the machine will pretty much instantly error out with a generic transmission failed message. Not sure where to go with this one. It's bizarre that it can connect when setting up the address book entry but doesn't work when actually used. I did have to use the workstation's IP address. It wouldn't accept a host name for a file path. I found that strange as well. Is this machine just simply too old now?

Re: MP 6001 - Scan to folder issues
Connection test does not test actual writing to the folder.
Reference my previous post, the error is most likely failed to write to folder. This is a firmware issue. Network support firmware must be v8.75 and system/copy must be v1.22.Comment

Re: MP 6001 - Scan to folder issues
Just to add my 2p worth, when sharing that folder create it on the c:/ drive & make sure you give full read/write permissions?
Also for testing purposes I set up another Windows log in account, (username scans password scans for example) & try again with those credentials.Let us eat, drink, and be merry, because tomorrow we may die!

Re: MP 6001 - Scan to folder issues
Hi Copier Tech
That is exactly how I do it, and if it is a corporate client I show the IT dept it works and tell them to sort out the user's permissions.
Also just my 2 cents on firmware, I would assume that whenever someone has connectivity issues, they would do the firmware first?Comment

Personally I update all firmware on every visit (not the package fw)Let us eat, drink, and be merry, because tomorrow we may die!

Re: MP 6001 - Scan to folder issues
That's probably what it is. The special firmware that's supposed to fix the known SMB issue is actually marked 8.65c I think. I think the other tech probably didn't update the system firmware and told me they did. I forgot an important rule and that is if someone works on something before you and they say they did something they didn't.Comment

Re: MP 6001 - Scan to folder issues
...ALSO check the SMB port on the MFP (check & change through telnet). CIFS uses port 139 & the newer versions use port 445. I had an instance where a customer during a Microsoft update, Microsoft Scan to Folder changed from port 139 to port 445 for security reasons. This is a simple fix and easy to overlook!
