[Misc] hard drives ricoh mpc 3002

of course all the used machines we get now a days no hard drives.
on the 5000 5501 mpc we have always just put in a hard drive format it and boom we are up and moving.

but for some reason the mpc 02 series will not let us format it reads failed. So the questions is are we missing something????

You putting in the specified capacity drive or larger? If the drive is smaller than it originally shipped with I would expect an error. The xx02 series were 500G if I recall of the top of my head.

The current 03's have 320GB so the 02's would be the same if not smaller.

If I remember correctly, the minimum size is 250GB. Anything larger, within reason, should work. Hopefully they left the SATA and power cables when they removed the drives.

If properly installed and functional, the machine will detect the new drive and automatically format it.

If I'm 'recycling' a used drive I like to do a zero-fill to make the drive squeaky clean, digitally speaking. Takes a little time but avoids issue with one machine trying to utilize the partitioning and formatting performed on a different unit.

I guess I have two hard drives that wont work in the 02 series (I have three 02 and they all do the same thing) even though the hard drives work in the 5501's

320 GB small hdd size for laptops.
fix the customer first then fix the machine... its simple and makes life more easy.

Actually they do not need any formatting first.

A *completely* blank drive will be formatted automagically on startup.

A drive used with a compatible partition scheme and formatting (such as one from a like model) should be manually formatted in SP mode, but will likely function.

Drives coming from other sources ideally would be zero-filled, but may alternatively can be formatted by Windows and installed. The machine will treat it as if it is blank because the windows partitioning and formatting is incompatible with Ricoh's BSD based system. The MFP will simply overwrite it with the required scheme.
