[CQ] C3002 Photos come out very grainy

    Hello All,

I am struggling with 2 Ricohs. My customer has 2 Ricoh C3002 and 1 Konica Minolta C552 and a Konica Minolta C6500. 1 Ricoh has 63K and the other 93K but anytime we print photos to the Ricohs they come out very grainy/Pixeled/Raster. However the same image comes out very crisp on both much older Konica Minoltas. Im using a pcl6 driver and a couple universal drivers. What am I missing? It happens on all paper. He is using oem toner. I guess I should also mention that the density is blotchy. I have 20 years experience with Konica Minolta but am just getting started with Ricoh. Please help? I know they are good machines.

    Thank you,
    Emmanuel

All pictures, or just certain ones?

Some years back, I had a real PITA customer who complained about the same issues when printing to an MP C4000 ( I think), but I was involved because it had a Fiery controller.

Turned out it was their company newsletter, and the pictures were all taken with a crappy cell phone. Keep in mind that this was maybe 7 or 8 years ago, and even the best cell phones took crummy pictures, compared to what they can do today.

It's hard to explain why one make of machine looks good, but not all printers respond the same.

It may be worth checking out the pedigree of those pictures, even if it's a long shot.

Post a sample original image and the print out image to the forum.

Sounds like a windows colours down conversion from TIF image format 24bit graphics
down to windows 256 colour or similar. Such be the case your software colour conversion is at fault for the grainy pixelated print out.

Ok, I will post it on Monday. Why do the Konica Minoltas print it nice and crisp lokking but the Ricohs do not? Any ideas?

It could be a driver setting such as toner saving or print resolution. Ricoh PCL 5 actually has better color. Is the customer using "OEM" supplies or Genuine Ricoh as there is a difference.

Do you recommend the pcl5 or the postscript?

If you have the PS3 option installed on the MP C3002, it has far more options for color control to include the use of ICM.
