    Ricoh 2022

    Hi there.
I need a little help with a problem with a Ricoh 2022. When placing paper on the glass he machine asks for odd size papers. When checking in service mode, on closing the lid with no paper on the glass, the display show 1's in bit positions 2,3,6 and 7,....4 and 5 are 0's. On checking a machine in the work shop, when the adf is closed with nothing on the glass, it shows all zero's. I have swap the sensors around but the problem persists. I have checked for any short circuits the the frame, that all seems to be fine. The doc feeder works 100% ok, no problems there. I've now run out of ideas...Can you help please?

Have you checked the sensor wich is suppose to detect if the DF/Platen Cover is open or closed? It's located near the left DF hinge. I had a case where it was broken and the effext was kind of the same because the machine does ignore the size sensors until the cover sensor says "it's open".

You can check it via SP or just try to copy via DF when it's not closed

Check to see that the original length and width sensors are where they should be, I have had at least two machine assembled incorrectly giving this fault, also I've had the fault where regardless of original size, when lid is shut machine defaults to A3, Good luck.

Also check that both side of the platten glass are spotless. Metho and Chux can leave a grey film that just good enough to fool the sensors into thinking a sheet of paper is on the glass. A damp soft cloth and a lot of elbow grease is the cure
At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.

Check for ceiling lights just above copier.
I know it sounds strange, but turn the lights out and see if it works.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

            Thanks

Hi Guys, Thanks for your replies. Had a look at the answers you sent me, unfortunately they didn't do the trick. But I'm glad to report that we finally got to the bottom of it. It turned out the be the left hinge on the ADF, the wider of the two, the one next to the sensor. It was hopping up as the lid was closed. Not much, but enough to confuse the machine. We replaced the hinge with one from a spare ADF and the problem went away. We will test the offending hinge in the workshop tomorrow. Thanks again for your help Cheers
