ricoh 3800 cmf dull op panel

Customer has a 3800 cmf. Operation panel is almost dull to the point where it can no longer be clearly read. Adjusting contrast Knob makes little to no difference. I suspect the LCD display itself to be hooped. I have reseated all connectors and ribbon cables in the panel with no luck.
I have also tried refitting the cable that goes from printer to the cmf unit with no luck. Anybody else experience this problem and come up with a fix?

    Thanks

Usually the lifetime of these panels and backlights is surprisingly long but I'm shure this is an aging related issue unless the display became unreadable from one day to another.

A good opportunity to talk with the customer (about a new machine) because a repair might be gainless if you consider that this is a machine from anno ~2002 - what might be the next issue?

I've not had this issue with any of the Ricoh line, but the old analog Minolta's had a small lamp that illuminated (back lit?) the displays. I did manage to find a source for the lamps, but soldering them in was a major pain. I've not had any of the displays apart yet, but I would guess there is a similar illuminate in the Ricoh's also.
the savin2535 is displaying well bet the hiter lamp is not shining and the lamp had been tested o.k.please kindly help.
Samir: No, not again. I... why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam? I swear to God, one of these days, I just kick this piece of shit out the window.
Michael Bolton: You and me both, man. That thing is lucky I'm not armed.

Replace the board with the dial attached to it , common problem on these.

I think tjvincent has got it I have consulted with another tech on this and he has had this problem and pinpointed it to the small bias transformer on this board. I am in the process of getting the board and will let you know the outcome. Thanks
