    The pump has been around for 1,000's of years, just not in copiers, it was invented by Archimedes, but it was modified to move dry powder, once the rubber boot gets hard and can't hold to the edges, it loses it's ability to push the toner out the end, replacing the pump is the best solution because the customers down time is worth more than a few bucks.

      well for me,it is not a cheap cost as i pay a dealer who probably marks up
      my cost 30% ,maybe more and if i have 12 saved nonworking ones buying
      the rubber pump and spending my non busy time rebuilding them makes sense.
      Now if they dont last i will bite the bullet and buy new ones...but i like "fixxing things",,
      i really hate the disposable way some companies do business.
