MPc3002 Scan to Email with Gmail

I know this has been done to death but I have not found a suitable answer.
I installed a MPC3002 the customer wants to scan to email with their Gmail account. They currently have an older Ricoh that scans to their local machine and it relays it SSL.
I use all the same outgoing settings as the relay machine:
    SSL authentication, port 465,
    DNS 8.8.8.8 OR 8.8.4.4,
    Server name:smtp.gmail.com
password is correct, I can log into their gmail account with it
    No domain used just workgroup
    Static IP address,

    What am I missing?

Setting the port to 465 in WIM isn't enough, You still have to enable "use secure connection (SSL)" on the machine itself or scans will fail.
    UT/ System settings/ FIle transfer/ SMTP Server/ Use secure connection / ON

        Is it an Authentication Error?
If so, then they probably have 2-step verification enabled on the account, so you'll have to generate an App password to use rather than their regular account password

Really not sure why but it started working. I did not change any settings. I had logged into the gmail account and was checking settings (didn't change any) and went back and tested the machine...worked! I don't get it. I have set many of the up and always the same way, 95% of the time they work.

Re: MPc3002 Scan to Email with Gmail

Sometimes I have to log into the account on a local computer, Gmail will often then provide an alert about a blocked login attempt. Often after resolving this it seems to work. I have also seen cases where it can take 48 hours for things to start working, even after OKing the device.

Ensure that the gmail account allows 'less secure applications'. Set that in the security preferences of the gmail account.

Currently smtp.gmail.com requires SSL/TLS not just SSL. The local relay will provide this. The MP C3002 does not. You may want to read the following link to Google support document on setting up scan from a printer, scanner, or app.

Send email from a printer, scanner, or app - G Suite Administrator Help

You also may need to modify the security on the gmail used as sender.

Google states that it can be either SSL or TLS. It does not state only TLS. I have it working with a C4503, port 465 SSL only

I had a 3002 recently stop working with Gmail, updated the network firmware cured it.

Re: MPc3002 Scan to Email with Gmail SOLVED

Went back to customer today and the machine would not connect to server. Finally found that the customer had changed the default gateway on his router and didn't bother to mention it. Set the gateway and...boom works.

danger - so how can is set more secure and still work?

do I need a current certificate if using SSL?

As stated in my 2nd reply in this thread nearly 2 years ago, create an app password in your Gmail security settings, and use that for authenticating the machine. If that doesn't work, a F/W update on the machine may be necessary. Consider yourself warned NOT to ask for the F/W here.
