[Misc] Black Lines on Top of printing.

Hey guys. Hope everyone is doing well.

I recently bought a used Ricoh MP C5000. The machine is working really well but has this black lines on top. I tried printing all black, cyan and magenta pages and the lines were still there.

Can someone help me guide in a direction where I can look or which part I need to replace? I'm in the bay area called a technician and wanted $180 an hour just to look at this. I got the machine for $300 so I'm hoping over the weekend I can try and fix it myself.

Looks like you need to replace PCU.

I agree, your black PCU (drum unit) has reached its use by date. You now have a terrible dilemma, spend a lot of money or say goodbye to your $300 investment.
And by the way, $180 ph is a very reasonable rate.

Understood. The place that sold me the machine had another machine that did not work because of the cover open error.

I plan to go to that place about two hours away and pick up the other parts of the machine and hopefully I can make it work. Thank you for your honest answer I appreciate that

Please bear in mind that the MP C5000 is quite an old copier and the other one could be in just as bad if not worse condition. Before you dig yourself a too deep a hole I suggest that you employ the tech for an hour to give you an honest appraisal as to whether this elderly copier is worth investing any more money in.
Drums, developers and fuser all have a limited life and are very expensive to replace and if you want the best out of them please have them professionally installed.

before anything, print out the smc report, that should give you an idea about the components

If you want a copier for just occasional use go to a big store & buy a brand new desktop printer, you'll get a year guarantee too.

If however you bought this for large volume runs then it will be worth an initial spend to get it running correctly!

Clean the charge roller and check for a scrap of paper or something else on the cleaning blade.

You can use a B224-2042 (cheaper) or D029-2256 (longer life) on this model. No modification needed to get working on black, but you will need to have a service manual to figure out how to strip the PCDU (it comes out as a drum and developer unit).
