IS loading firmware with front door open a possible issue/

    greetings
I have to load FW on some older mpc300s and have them in a cold shop.
I try not to cycle any machines when it is below 40 degrees.
I know some machines say load with front door close but seen other techs
on here say they dont always.
so if i try to load the FW with front door open will it just not load?
OR cause a possible E-?? ERROR.
    thanks in advance

The only machine I have seen state that you are supposed to leave the door open was the C6501 due to "electrical noise from the motors"

I don't think it really matters for other machines though. I've done at least one with the door open and the machine chugged right along.

That's not the deepest of proof though.

I normally update the firmware by powering up with either the front or RHS door open.
It just stops all machine motor activity / idles the print engine from doing process control etc.

I've never had a problem doing it that way.

      Other recommendations.

      • Unplug the network and fax cable.
      • Check and clean the optics and do a full set of auto colour calibrations BEFORE updating the engine module.
      • Knowledge not shared, is eventually knowledge that becomes lost... like tears in the rain.

I have always done updates with the doors closed, even the MP C6501, with no problems.

            Either way doesn't matter.

I'm usually working on the machine while updating fw, even taking the fuser in/out never had an issue.

Yeah I don't think it really matters I just happened to see it in the manual and got a good chuckle.

I read it in mono manual years ago and it does make sense to me.

There is less power draw going on, and like sturmtrooper said electrical noise or a poor earth can be a factor in data corruption.

I have been told that ift was possible to, but every time I have tried. the firmware load has failed.

I have caused a firmware update to fail by dicking around with the machine while it was in the process. Unplugging fax and network cables is a must. The only machine I left the front door open on a firmware update was a c7501 I had in a print shop, and had no problems with the updates. The rest of that pos was a different story. well I just did two mpc300 and did the 1st all doors closed,no cables or fax as normal and loaded as it should.
Did the 2nd with side door open and same as the 1st.
the only thing i wont pull is the glass and optics..
And I DONT PULL ANY FUSERS NOR DRUM as an added caution..
i can wait the extra 5-10 minutes...
plus i dont rip apart anything till i power up machine after finishing the FW load..
do a test sheet or config page and then take apart..
