Ricoh MP 5000 over toning

I have several MP 5000's. A few have over 2 million clicks. They used to go 160k to 320k before CQ problems. I now have some low meter ones that I can't get them to go 1k without over toning. I used to only use generic toner. When the over toning started to increase I switched to OEM. With the OEM the over toning greatly increased. I know about cleaning the mag roller and adding the drum shaft ground. When I replace drum and dev I do SP 2001, 3001, and 2801, in that order. What am I doing wrong? I'm not a Ricoh dealer so I don't have access to tech pubs. I read on here that NA trading toner is the magical cure. Is this true? I have some on order, and will try anything. Replacing dev every 1,000 copies will break the bank. Any help would be appreciated.

After cleaning the mag roller, did you thoroughly clean ALL toner and residue from the entire PCDU and toner supply components, including the toner recycling. Any residue can quickly contaminate the new developer. Toner and developer should be the same trusted source, preferably either Genuine Ricoh or NA Trading. Please note, OEM does mean the same as Genuine Ricoh. Very few after market supply makers do not keep the same standards of inspection and quality control.

Only time I've run into this problem (background at less than 1k), was when I used the wrong developer in a machine that had been converted to use B079 developer and 9887 (888187) toner. Was not aware of the conversion and used the B296 developer and got over toned/dirty/gritty copies almost instantly.

Also was taught that when you execute Sp 2801 (or is it 2805?), to take a scrap of paper and block the toner chute to help prevent background. But don't forget to remove it once ProCon is done, or else you end up on the opposite end of the spectrum after a short time (under toned).

So ultimately, you should just get some Genuine Ricoh Developer and Toner, clean your PCU and Development unit Really Well , and give it another Go.
You could also try converting those machines to use the above mentioned developer and toner. Just have to swap the toner motor (with one from an Aficio 3035/3045) and clean out all old toner from hopper and PCU, and developer from dev. unit. We've been getting more yield with that combo. Just a thought.
