c2050 copies with no gray in B&W - prints ok!

Copies have no gray in B&W, text.
When select "photo (text)" it is all gray, but no black...
When making copie in color from a B&W Ricoh test card = ok
    All prints are ok.

I want to post examples. Is it possible to upload a pdf file here?

How is the printout under printer sp sp1-103-002? Maybe the machine need a calibration for copy and printer mode? Someone playing in copy mode with settings and saved as standard settings?

I would also do a cleaning of the scanner optical system. Is this phenomen just in the copy mode, it's possible the machine do a wrong white balance. So check the white stripe under fb glas. The the copy mode with adf and from the glas too.

              Atkinson: sp1103 fusing idling
Perhaps your sp is from a mpc2051?

He is referring to Printer sp mode not system sp.

                  Repeat:

                  ALL prints are ok!
ALL Scans are ok (both platen glass and DF)!
                  ALL color copies are ok!
Convertion black color to magenta color = ok (=with shades of grey)

NOT GOOD = copies B&W in text, photo of text/photo: there are no shades of grey.

All user settings are set correctly.
                  ACC and firmware update done.
                  Cleaned optics.

That is System SP. We all know that. What Atkinson is talking about PRINTER SP. It is the same on all color models.

I have had problems with copies from these small color machines when the drums get old. Usually density problems such as you are having. It doesn't make a lot of sense since printing is fine, but you might want to try a new black drum and see if this fixes your issue.

I have pulled the drums apart on these series and stripped down the charge roller and vacuum
the soft charge cleaning roller and they revive.
If the drum is all marked with lines then
                        it needs to go..

I think it was on this model, but not exactly sure. Remove laser unit, (left side of machine --> remove two screws to drop down that cover --> remove waste toner #2/ cleaning unit --> remove the two fans/brackets --> disconnect some harnesses --> remove laser unit (two screws), check to see that the shutter on the laser unit isn't bound up or has loose screw). I think there are some SP's you can adjust also, just can't remember which ones right now (will update if I find them).

If the laser would be the issue, or Y or M or C color would have the same issue...
Also would the same error occur in printing mode.
And that is not the case.
