    MP C4002 usb media port

Have a MP C4002 , the client had been using the usb media slot pretty regularly.

Media slot is allowed in system settings / Admin

Now it does not recognize a usb when plugged in.

They do have user codes for printing and copying. This system has been placed for well over a year, all of a sudden stopped recognizing a USB stick.

I re-seated the cable on the rear pcb. I also replaced the control panel.

I searched archives, not much help. ( I need to check Printer SP 1-110-001) But the screen is there to print form an external device, just does not recognize it. And it worked before.

    Thanks for any ideas

You may have to try another flash drive. I have run across a couple of different drives over the years that were not recognized. It even states in the manual that all drives are not compatible. Also, check sp 5985-2, make sure it is set to 1.

Re: MP C4002 usb media port

      Thanks for the input,

I have tried my usb, which works on the our MP C4002 at our shop, not recognized at their Ricoh.

The SP 5985-2 is for enabling the usb input form a computer to print, I'm referring to the usb media slot on the right side of the display

I will check the SP's, just don't know how they would have been "messed with" by the client.

      Thanks again

Have you checked that the USB contact pins are not broken? If they are constantly using that USB port they can wear out or bend if in constant use.

Also might be worth updating FW.

Thanks, but I replaced the entire panel.

Tested their panel back at our shop, and it works

            Server mode, Printer SP

Look for something about media device. I cannot remember the wording or the SP. But under Printer SP and Scanner SP you can enable the "Media" for print and scan.

There ore only certain file types that it will recognize. It will also only recognize i believe 255 files in a folder. if there are more than 255 entries before the first printable file it will never find the printable files. The device my have been reformatted with a non compatible format,

                    Thanks to all for possibilities.

                    Just to re-state:

Their media port worked for over a year

I replaced their panel with a known working panel (usb) media port, ( no change)
tested their panel , and it works on our machine.

The media port is on ALLOW

Printer SP 1110-001 is enabled. If not enabled (0) the screen is not visible to print from an external device. Their machine shows this screen, but when a usb is inserted it does not detect it.
My usb functions on every other Ricoh, not recognized on theirs.

Re-seated usb cable on the rear pcb, thinking it may be loose, no change.

thanks for all the advice so far

Have tried unplugged the USB cable from the rear PCB and plugging the USB device in directly? You could have a bad USB cable from the back to the front.

I have not seen this before, but you have tried every logical step leaving what slimslob recommended and if that does not work then consider the FW maybe corrupted or controller port may be damaged. I believe most usb ports use a 5v power source on one pin to power/charge external devices, check p2p for power to port.

Thanks Wilez, I do notice that with my usb, it has an led indicator inside which "flickers" on our shop working unit. Their (non functional) connection does not "light up my usb stick.

Very well could be the power issue on the connection.

I'll give feed back on any solution, thanks all

Find a USB cord you don't use, chop it in half, peel back the case to to expose the wires, plug it in to the control panel and use a volt meter to test it. Black is negative and Red is positive, should get five volts, hopefully slightly higher. That will tell you if your getting power. If not, the cable into the USB on the back, if your still not getting power, you've probably got something burnt out on the board.
