MPC2504ex fusing sleeve bonded to stripper plate?

Went to an account with an SC540 today. This is what I found

Fusing sleeve is wrecked, it may be hard to see but a fold of the sleeve is pinched up between the stripper plate and the pressure roller. The whole machine only has like 60k on it, about half color and half BW. Has anyone else seen anything like this before? I'd like to prevent it from happening again.

Lately it seems all models ending in 04 are POSes!

We had a customer phone in with an 04 boxctheat said while they were using it there was a loud bang from the rear of the box followed by smoke and the box went dead! Not even 6 months from new!

One Huge question. Did anyone with your company ever tell the customer how to clear fusing unit errors?

I have to disagree with this.

Went to a 6004 yesterday with "replace fusing belt" massage, sleeve was still perfectly fine so I simply extended the life for another 100K

Same here. I regularly get life plus on these and the 03 series as well... Not so much on the 02 series. They rarely ever went life even with the updated firmware.

same here also. 03 and 04 are working well for me. drums last a long time and fuser are going past expected life for me. there not that bad to rebuild either.

You mean like telling them how to go into SP mode and restart the machine to clear fusing overhead SC codes and the like? No. There is only about four people in the company that know how to do that me, the other tech, my boss, and the sales guy who used to be a tech and none of us would give that out to customers.

Looking at your pics the stripper plate has quite a build up on it. It is possible that the belt caught the build up on the plate. I personally have not seen this happen. Possible too they could have run heavy stock through the machine with out setting paper type properly. High speed and heavy stock could have buckled the belt. Make sure the entrance guide doesn't have a build up on it. This could nick the lead edge of the paper and start a jam issue which could have caused the problem. Customers have a tendency to yank out the paper, jammed in the fuser, causing damage. I have seen these belts occasionally wrinkle in the center. Possibly not assembled correctly at factory or re-builder squeezed the belt assy. during repair.
