My guess is it's a setting. Exit face up or down?

    Have you tried another feeder?

Does it slow down only while scanning the originals, or is it still slow after that.

A few things that come to mind - worn ADF rollers will eventually cause misfeeds, but I've seen them slow down the ADF before they die completely.

Mixed Original Sizes will cut the speed almost in half depending on what they are feeding.

A bad HDD may also be a possibility

No this is really slow only when using ardf. Does not matter if it is set to auto size vor not.speed is fine off glass.could it be a bad board.will take a new hd with me

#1 suspect is that Mixed Original Sizes has been defaulted to on somehow
            #2 is bad HDD
bad rollers would probably be registering jams by now

Boards typically work or they don't (there are a few notable exceptions)

It is starting to sound like the HDD. Does it feed the orig all the way thru and then think about it?

I'm thinking it's having to clear memory cause you are putting different originals rather than having one on the glass it's just making multiples of.

Any machanical problems should cause also bad copies or timing jams. What happen if you force a df free run?

These ARDF's also have a problem with the Relay rollers. Open up the front of the ARDF and check the big white gear for the Relay rollers.... it's held on with adheasive (???) And after time this can slip. The entire unit is replaced as an assembly.
