MP C2003 SC240-04 LD Error Magenta

    MP C2003 SC240-04

    Hi All,
One of our techs got a bit over enthusiastic and did a full memory wipe with SP 5801 and now the copier just sits there with a SC 240-04 LD Magenta error.
Reloaded all the info from the birth certificate and still no joy.
Tried to re-upload the laser units settings with SP 2110-05 and just get an error message. Tried a laser unit from another copier and still nothing. Tried new eproms and nvram and still no go.

    Anybody got any bright ideas??

One theory I have is that the data you upload from the laser unit to the copier is a one shot job, once loaded it's wiped so you can't swap a used laser unit to another machine so the only way I can get the laser unit settings into the copier is to purchase a new unit. Anybody confirm this?

BTW, there is a Ricoh RTB for SC240 on this model range but that was for new copiers that died at first turn on and was just a select serial number range of which this copier is well outside.

Good idea but can't get a print out from copier, looks like I'll have to stand there and go through the screen line by line

You might have to print out the laser settings from a good machine and then take THAT laser and fit it and try to change the settings to match that of the donor machine.

Also if SP2-110-005 fails after fitting a new laser check that SP2-119-001 to 003 is "0" and try SP2-110-005 again.

??? turn copier on and it goes straight to SC 240 even with a door open and the laser 5v safety line cut.

                Hi,

What was the problem before he did the memory clear?
Have you tried installing a different IPU?
                Aye! Cut the crap

The copier was having scanning issues, the tech was just suppose to clear scanner memory to flush out any old jobs that had got stuck there but instead managed to wipe the lot.

From the service manual for replacing laser unit:
                    3. Download the data of the new laser unit to the main body with SP2-110-005.
If it fails (see step 4 below), perform SP2-110-005 again.
If it is not executed correctly, outputs will be abnormal (magnification and color registration errors), and SC 285 may occur.
                    4. Check that SP2-119-001 to 003 is "0."
If it is not "0", perform SP2-110-005 again.
                    5. Turn off the main power switch and disconnect the power cord.

With a new laser unit the value for SP-110-005 with a new laser unit is on a tag attached to the unit. I have yet to see it on a machine already in use. It should be on the birth certificate or an old SMC report.

been there, tried that You can SP 2-110-05 until your blue in the face but it just says "error"

And as far as I know new laser units for '03s don't come with a printed slip as all the correction values for mirror position and LD settings are read from a chip in the laser unit when you install it. Since I can't get the copier to upload the settings with SP2-110 that makes me think that the info on this chip is a one shot job and once read is wiped. Anybody ever seen this?
I know its not a normal Ricoh procedure but Lexmark are infamous for doing this to stop you swapping boards between printers.

Have you tried disconnecting the skew correction harness first? When replacing with a new unit it is not connected until after executing 2110-005.

                          Installing a New Laser Unit
                          1. Insert the new laser unit in the main body carefully.
                          2. Connect all harnesses except the skew correction motor harness [A] (2nd from right).

Just curious, if you go to the 7xx in service mode I think 7403, is the sc240-004 the only code that is showing recent. I've had a machine throw 2 codes simultaneously and in order to solve the issue had to resolve one sc before the other would clear. Hope that makes sense
