    Control Panel Advise

Hi, I am considering changing my copier to a ricoh unit (mpc 4503,3003 or 2503zsp) and was wondering if the smart operations panels are any good? i had been planning on looking for a machine with the conventional 9" control panel as it seems to do the job fine and i imagine are more reliable, the zsp model panels look interesting but i am not 100% sure about how reliable they are compared to the 9" one, i notice that ricoh has changed them again on the latest model, has anyone had experience of panel faults?

The only problem I have had with an SOP was one that lost touch screen calibration. Had to do a full power down and reboot to correct it.

The Cheetah panels do, unfortunately, have their niggles. Set them to normal startup mode, keep on top of the firmware and ensure the machines are shut down correctly, never switched off by the plug. Boards and software are fried if that happens. I would get a machine with the second generation Cheetah panel too, the 04 colours.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

      Hit it.

I've converted a couple of machines to SOP v1, and it's definitely a lot of "hoops" to jump though. If it's already got a normal operation panel and it's working, why mess with it.

The SOP v2 panels on the 04 series and up is a different beast altogether (No hard keys at all), but I have had fewer issues with it than with the v1 panels.

I used to kick off the power plug and jump back when I restarted.
Sc-554, SC-220-4 will appear after restarting, and then SC-995-4 will appear after re-booting, and then re-processing NV RAM and Control Panel data will solve the problem.

To be honest the SOP panels are no real improvement just one more coponent to go wrong!? However they do make the MFD look nice!

Still haven't worked out why anyone would want to access the interweb from their photocopier op panel, wouldn't it be easier to do it from your desk PC with a nice big screen and a mouse?

But back on subject, if your SOP does die they are very expensive to replace.

I use the panel browser to access the WIM when I'm setting up @Remote
I believe the original idea was so that customers could print directly from a web server....still a clunky thing to do.

Yes the web access does seem to be a bit of a gimmick ,suppose some people may find it useful? ,looking like the 9" panel is a better option, i'm really comparing chalk and cheese anyway, this upgrade will be from the best machine canon made (just kidding) the ir3180

Only real issue I have come across with the android panels are that the brightest setting isn't bright enough if there is too much sunlight in the office, but this is probably more of a problem for us guys in the Southern hemisphere

04 Range have the better SOP but as previous post say if they become faulty or damaged they require the complete panel to be replaced and they are not cheap!!!

Go into screen features turn off auto dim, set brightness to max that's what I do on all new installs.
