    C4500 Error code SC303

I know this is a voltage error for Yellow PCU. I just rebuilt the Yellow drum unit about 2 weeks ago and it had been working fine. The rebuild kit had new aftermarket drum, 2 cleaning blades. The charge roller was really bad so replaced with aftermarket one. Like I wrote everything was fine after replaced and looked great!

Can the new black OEM drums be converted and used for colors? The color drums are so much more money. I've haven't had much success rebuilding them with aftermarket parts.

Also do new Dev units come with the developer inside or do you need to add a bag?

    Thanks for the help

There are a number of threads on here covering using black drums units to replace color.

For almost all older models, if you look at the connector on the back of the drum unit you will notice that one corner is trimmed at a 45 angle. There is a steel pin in that corner, Ricoh's intent I think was to make it harder to trim the corner off but for me it marked how deep to trim. Just use a hobby and shave down to the pin, remove the pin and shave a little more.

Depending on the model of the color machine to be used in, there are two leads on the connector that need to be swapped.

My experience is that development units come with developer. On older models, the DU will last twice as long as the developer which why they make the developer available.

I posted about getting this code after installing a yellow "rebuilt" drum unit. What's weird is it worked when I was there and ran several test pages. Customer called next day and said the first time they went to use it the SC303 code came up and won't reset. I don't know Ricoh that well but hoping someone who has rebuilt the drum units can tell me what I may have missed? If I can't see anything obvious I'll probably just convert an OEM black drum and be done with it.

Ricoh is different then a lot of OEM's that their drums are real expensive but dev units cheap.

      Thanks in advance

      * Just wanted to add after a little more research I see it's something specifically with the charge roller, which I did replace with aftermarket because original had build up and when I tried to clean the surface came off.

make sure the connector at the back of the machine for the yellow pcu is not broken. if it is ok, then i would just replace the pcu, dv unit should be ok. we have modified the black ones for color many times

Ok, had a chance to look at the drum unit I rebuilt. Everything looked fine except I found the screw for the small white drum drive gear was missing. Does this screw contact a spring, etc for ground or applied voltage? If so I would think this is what would cause the SC303 code for voltage leak?

I already replaced charge roller with new aftermarket so maybe that's causing the problem

There is a possibility that something got out of position during reassembly. I have had that happen a few times.

be sure to clean any contacts very well... on metal contacts, try emery board ( paper nail file ) or pencil eraser.. spring contacts eraser, blow clean with canned air.
