    thanks, I will check it.
it will be nice if the code can be cleared and just not use address book function because it is still sending and recieving faxes fine.

well you can set up a global sc code rejection but that's not a good idea if the machine gets a serious problem^^

have you used the internal HDD format feature after replacing the hdd?

I have removed the second new hard drive for the "please wait" issue.

I want to run it without hard drive and no scan

the copier and print work fine without the hard drive, the fax also works without the hard drive, so if I can get rid of the address book error message all will be good.

if not possible I will pull the fax board and this will just have copy and print.

If you consider a workaround like this - why not just ignoring the error message and keep all MFP functions? As far as I remember this is just a little message at the corner of the screen wich doesn't affect the basic functions of the fax.

you are correct it is just a little message at the corner of the screen, but I want to be able to resell this and a new customer would probably be worried about any error messages

also thanks for all of the info and suggestions, I do appreciate it

Take a look at SP5846-50 and 5871. I think this will reset your address book and turn off the HDD. The HDD simply allows a larger address book, so there must be some way to only store on the FCU board. Also take a look at the FAX SP5101 to clear the SRAM and possibly pointers to the HDD address book
              .

thanks for the tips, I am at the shop working on it and just tried:
                5846-50
                5871
                fax sp 5101
tried setting HD at "0" and "1"

                tried unplugging fax module
                then redid all the above
                plus did Memory Clear 5801-1

the only way I was able to clear the address book error SC870 was to plug the hard drive back in

I'm just afraid that will lead back to my original problem of "please wait" staying on indefinitely
