    Ricoh MP 6001

Customer was complaining that the tray 1 elevator doesn't always lift the paper when it is full of paper. They have to remove most of the paper for it to lift and then it starts working again. I tested out the machine but had no problems with the elevator lifting the paper. Do the lift motors go out in this machine.. I know it is old but the customer really likes this machine. Thanks in advance

First thing I would do is make sure the elevator tray and the two metal guides it slides up along are not bend. I've seen many of those guides get bowed outwards and cause the lifted part of the tray to bind up. If that's fine I'd check the cables that lift the tray are in good shape and properly routed. If that checks out then I'd repeatedly make it try to lift a 3/4 full tray several times in a row to see if you hear anything from the motors or can get it to fail.

Check the sensors that are actuated by the front fence..... The machine check these sensors before lift the plate.....

Tray 1 is not a LCT.
Everything wore out, also a lift motor.
Even better is to sell a new machine...

Tray 1 is usually a tandem tray which takes more paper than a normal tray so it does have large capacity.

Fit the new one and change the pressure roller.

The fusers with the big pressure rollers take a long time to warm up coming out of sleep, many customer complaints.

The gears don't break on the skinny fusers as long as the fusers are rebuilt when they are due at 450K, and the gear is replaced about every third fuser rebuild.

i dont find that...and i think that skinny roller is not a good design..
                        The surface should be harder....
I know the old heavy 1075 roller took longer to warm up but they ran n ran..

Actually it is the size of the fusing roller and its thickness that affect warmup time. The newer 50-80 ppm model with thinner fusing rollers and therefore less metal mass to warm up, take much less time to warmup.

If you (topic-starter) mean the 1. Tray,
I had the same issue - actually it was nothing really wrong with the machine. All I had to do is to take all the paper from both trays, insert the empty trays in the machine, let it recognize it, an than to fiil the paper, afterwards everything worked without any issues for many months.
Btw I show all my customers the best way to fill paper in this tray:
                            1. fill only the left tray (it is much more convinient to fill),
                            2. insert both trays, and let the machine transport the paper to the right,
                            3. fill the left tray once more.
Those who use this method, never break the fence.

My customers end up bending the right side rear metal frame because they heavy hand the paper load.
I too tried telling them load the beefy left side tray and they respond i cant wait for it to load..
I give up and just go thru my day...
