GENTLY explain to the customer that "Resetting a machine's counter is the same thing as trying to roll back the odometer on a car.... it's illegal, and you don't want to expose the customer to any possible charges of fraud if they decide to sell their machine at some point."
You look like the hero...because you kept them from breaking the law, and you don't have to do anything unscrupulous.
A few years back I seem to recall a Canon guy suggest taking the counter PWB and drilling 7 or 8 holes in it to let the copies leak out. That's what I do. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
