SMTP over TLS (STARTTLS) on MPC300

Hi Guys,

Has anyone configured SMTP over TLS (port 587) on an MPC 300 device?
I was supporting the guy remotely and asking him to describe what he sees on the operation panel.
When SSL is turned on, port number disappears. I am just assuming that it automatically assigns an SSL port.
From the WIM, i manually changed the port to 587 and entered the email, username and password.
When asked to do connection test from file transfer, it succeeds, but when asked to do a scan, it says transmitting only.

Am I missing something? or this device does not support StartTLS at all?

Pretty sure the MP C300 only supports SSL. The main clue is not being able to input the port number via User Tools. Even though you can change it in WIM it still won't work. Also the connection test is basically just a ping and really does not verify the configuration is correct.

Just as suspected. Thanks for the input guys. 1 more query though, if I install their certificate on the machine, will there be any chance that this will work on port 587?

Firmware has been updated. Had a confirmation from ricoh as well that GW09 devices does not support TLS.

MP C401 supports ssl maybe time for an upgrade.

There is also the possible of using a local relay computer using a software such as Stunnel.

Though the case is closed, I'm still curious about SSL and TLS.
In the old machines, we use to upload the certificate (trusted root cert from equifax) and it simply works after that.

In this case, the customer has their own certificate. Now I'm just wondering if I upload their certificate on the machine. You think there will be a chance that the STARTTLS will work? Has anyone tried this method before? Is it worth a shot?
