[Jamming] Ricoh MPC 8002 Tandem tray won't move paper over when empty

When the paper empties on the right tray it is not showing empty and does not drop the paper tray down and load the paper from the right side. I am getting familiar with this machine but not there yet...lol. I cleaned the sensors and not sure where to go from here. Sure appreciate any help.. Thanks

If it doesn't know it is out of paper then it will not work.start with looking at sensor that tells it has paper might be flag on lever broken off. use service mode and look at 5 803 input check and look through listing to you fine paper sensor that is use for that tray and see if it changes state. have you purchase service manual on copier and options. I work on older models that had a lct units. tell you fix out of paper sensor it will not move paper over.

Check the paper feed assy... There is a sensor on it for paper presence, try to swap the feed assy from another tray

There are at least 8 service bulletins dealing with the problems with the tandem tray used on this model. Bulletins 033, 035 and 102 deal with the tray not lifting. 033 and 035 have to do with the end fence on the right tray. 033 has to do with proper mounting of the fence to improve alignment of the engagement of the tandem tray set detection sensor by the actuator at the top of the fence. 035 has to do with an improved end fence to improve alignment of the engagement of the tandem tray set detection sensor by the actuator at the top of the fence. 102 is a modification of the mounting of the plate that the tandem tray set detection sensor is mounted on. Applying all three bulletins should solve the problem. 033 and 035 attached. 102 error during upload

So when you say it doesn't know it ran out of paper, will it feed the last sheet and then try to pick up a sheet that is not there and show a jam? Or will it stop because it does recognize that it fed the last sheet and fail to do the tandem tray shift trick?

sometimes I found the compressed paper stuck in the connector behind the tandem and it gave me problems, once disassembled it also controls the clutch that lowers the top could be blocked and the steel ropes if they are in the guides.

You got alot of good tips from the guys. One other thing to check is the paper guide on the rear of the draw it becomes bowed from slamming the draw and impedes the platform from lowering.

Solution was actually very simple... the sensor cutout in the lift tray was not lining up with the sensor actuator... ugh
