    [Error Code] MP C401SP - SC670-00

    Hi all,

    I have MPC401 with an unrecoverable SC670.

    Wont accept a fw update.

Tried booting up with HDD disconnected.

I removed the refitted the controller & BICU.

Not a bit stuck manual is not much help

Check the connections between the controller and BCU
Replace the BCU for 100% failure
    • If occurrence of the error is sporadic, the firmware may need to be updated, or the controller board or PSU requires replacement

My experience says to replace the controller but manual is saying BICU for “100% failure”

Communication error between the controller and front panel. Check all physical connections between them. If there is a USB cable between them it could be the problem.

For my error SC670 the manual states "Check the connections between the controller and BCU"

SC672 is a communication error between the controller & panel.

Not sure if this helps but on th MPC3003 you get a simulare fault due to the toner bottle try removing them and powering it up and see what you get.

We have also seen this on the C307 machines. Toner all over the contacts/ toner chip. After cleaning (really well), good to go.

Try updating JUST the System and Engine firmware files. See if that will clear the code. If not I'd replace the Controller first...then BICU if that doesn't resolve it.

Tried booting up without the toner in same error seen that a few times on the 306/406 this 401 is spotless inside.

Machine wont accept any firmware, package or romdata.

Have you tried accessing WIM and using remote firmware.

I remember getting a brand new 401 in that popped a sc670 during setup. We replaced the controller, bicu, op panel, HDD, and USB with no luck. Ricoh ended up giving us credit for it and we ordered a new one. I messed around with it for months off and on and never got it to work. I know this doesn't you much - Just passing along my experience with a 670 on these.

You might be better off swapping out the machine rather than spend countless man hours and money on chasing a fix

We have had Ricoh replace a number of out of box failures.
