You may want to reseat Controller PCB, NV RAM, DIMMS, FAX. Is a HDD installed and have you tried starting it up without the HDD? What is the frequency of the error. SC 672 is a very common (and unfriendly error code on a Ricoh). Try disabling Energy Save (SP 5191 to 0; SP 5305 to 0; FAX SP Mode 1-101-022 Bits 1,4,5 should be all 1).

      672 - Controller-to-operation panel communication error
at startup After powering on the machine,
      communication between the
      controller and operation panel does
not begin, or the communication is
      interrupted after a normal startup.
       Controller stalled
       Controller board installed
      incorrectly
       Defective controller board
       Operation panel connector loose
      or defective
 Poor connection of DIMM and
      optional boards on the controller
      board
      1. Check the setting of SP5875-001.
If the setting is set to "1 (OFF)",
      change it to "0 (ON)".

Past experience with this SC has been with the connector between controller and OP. Replacing this cable fixed my problem. Good Luck.

Power off. Remove NVRAM, Memory DIMMs, HDD and Fax option then turn power back on. If code is gone, reinstall each option/item , one at a time until code returns. The last unit reinstalled is defective or needs connector(s) cleaned. if code is still present after all have been removed the problem is a connection between boards. In the past, I have found ALL of these causing a problem at one time or another. Good luck.

Controller-to-operation panel communication error at startup. Said communication is primarily through a USB cable. Try reseating at the controller end.

I always start by updating ALL firmware files first (assuming the machine will let you)

Then as mentioned below re-seat all connections.

Reconnect HDD last & power on with LAN cable & HDD disconnected.

If the engine cycles with the SC672 on the display when the front cover is open/closed try the following.

              1) unplug the power with SC672 on display
              2) switch off rocker switch
              3) insert power and wait for relay to click on rocker switch.
              4) switch on at rocker switch
              5) machine will boot up correctly if SC672 was caused by power saving glitch
